Dr. E's Night Cream
A note to this website and its name. Several years ago my husband and I owned an ostrich ranch. This page was first started for JC Ranch. Now it serves for our soap and cold cream. Although we really enjoyed raising the big birds as the healthiest choice for a great tasting red meat, we had to give up our ranch. We have however kept our website and email addresses.
SOAP
I started making soap with a passion about 10 years ago. Nothing compares to taking a bath with handmade soap. It has character; it charms you. The soap feels good: soft, rich, enveloping, soothing. It leaves an emollient film on you that makes your skin feel soft and sensuous. It is not homogenized pasteurized, deodorized, sanitized, or synthesized. Basic soap is made of two ingredients: fat and lye. When combined together they saponify creating soap and glycerin. In manufactured soaps the glycerin is removed and sold separately. Not so with handmade soap. The glycerin is left in the soap making it very soothing to use.
The fats in my basic soap consist of olive oil, coconut oil and tallow / ostrich fat / and or vegetable oils. Some of my soaps are superfatted with glycerin and castor oil for dry skin. My basic soap does not contain added dyes or scents. It is a mild body soap that can even be used to shampoo your hair making it the perfect travel soap.
Some varieties on the basic soap include Rosemary shampoo and body soap (for brunettes), Oatmeal soap, Peppermint soap (my husband's favorite), Mechanics soap (for the greasy hands) and Outdoor Bug Away soap in the summertime.
COLD CREAM
For 75 years my family has been in the cold cream business. My father started making hand cream while he was in medical school in the late 1920's. We have been providing it to patients, relatives, and friends ever since. It can be used for everything from chapped hands and lips to protecting bald heads and skin from the elements and providing protection and healing for baby bottoms.
The ingredients include among others:
Mineral Oil - Known for being efficacious in wound healing, it is also considered to be among the most effective moisturizing ingredient available.
Beeswax - When combined with mineral oil, the result is a mixture soothing and protective to the skin. It provides a soft, flexible coating that resists water but can still be removed with soap.
Paraffin - Leaves the skin hydrated, soft and supple. It also provides relief from eczema, psoriasis and dehydrated skin.
This cold Our hand creams are fragrance-free and have no added colorings/dyes.
This is a very thick cream and take awhile to "soak" in. There are no essential oils or other "healing" additives added to our cold creams. The protective coating of the cold cream itself locks moisture in and blocks out irritating substances. This allows the skin to heal on its own.
